Charles Armstrong '09Long term Quality of Life Outcome following Intratympanic Gentamicin for Unilateral Meniere’s DiseaseObjective: Few, if any, studies exist that evaluate long term quality of life outcomes in patients receiving intratympanic gentamicin for unilateral Meniere’s disease. Our goal in this study is to evaluate the self-rated long term quality of life measures of patients with unilateral definite Meniere’s disease who have undergone intratympanic gentamicin using well-established surveys. Hypothesis: Quality of life outcome measures (SF-12, FLS, Class A-F) will demonstrate that intratympanic gentamicin improved patients’ quality of life measures on a long term basis and that they will achieve Class A results. Additionally, we hypothesize that patients with definite unilateral Meniere’s disease function below established means for the general population prior to treatment. Study Design and Setting: Prospective, observational outcome study. Methods: Patients with definite unilateral Meniere’s disease as defined in 1995 by the American Academy of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) will be enrolled. Subjects were treated with intratympanic gentamicin using a titration method after failed medical management and thorough work up. The SF-12 health survey (SF-12), the AAO-HNS Functional Level Scale (FLS), and the Class A-F reporting guidelines preoperatively, 6 months, 1 year and 2 years after final injections will be administered.
