Resident Research

Resident research in the Division of Otolaryngology is supervised and facilitated by a faculty mentor chosen by the resident, the research director, and the strong research infrastructure of the Department of Surgery. Research services comprise access to a wide range of laboratories including dedicated microsurgery and large animal operating rooms, statistical consulting, medical illustration and medical editing, computer consulting, and medical librarian services. The complete Otolaryngology Resident Research Program Summary is available here in pdf format.

Dedicated research time is provided in the third year of residency. In the second year, residents are free to develop a project of their own interest, or to select a project related to an active grant held by a faculty member. Residents are not required to obtain funding for their research project, but are encouraged to apply for available resident research awards, such as those available via the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation.

Over the last several years, residents have performed clinical, outcomes, anatomical, and basic science research. The following pages contain summaries of recent resident research projects.
