Message from the Chairman

Timothy M. McCulloch, MD

Professor and Chair, Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery

Dear Applicant:

Welcome to the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. I am delighted to serve as the new Division Chair having assumed responsibilities in May 2007. I look forward to meeting new students and residents who are as excited as I am to be here.

The faculty in the Division of Otolaryngology has been recognized nationally and internationally for excellence in the areas of neurotology, phonosurgery, pediatric otolaryngology, and head and neck oncology. In a recent U.S. News and World Report, University Hospital and Clinics was ranked among the nations top 50 hospitals in numerous categories including the treatment of ear, nose, and throat disorders.

The residency program consists of five years of otolaryngology residency including the initial year with rotations in general surgery, anesthesiology, neurological surgery and emergency medicine. The resident experience is primarily at the University hospital, but also includes rotation at Meriter Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital and the William S. Middleton VA Hospital, as will as the new American Family Children's Hospital and the Transformations center, all located conveniently in Madison. A mentored research experience complements the program. Cutting-edge facilities, including a world-class voice disorders laboratory, a bioengineering laboratory, a temporal bone dissection laboratory, a laryngeal physiology facility and microsurgery lab. As well as an outstanding research support environment. Residents here will gain broad experience allowing them to develop outstanding clinical and surgical skills. Many will build on their work through fellowships, post-graduate research, and academic careers.

Madison is Wisconsin's capital city, home of the University of Wisconsin and renowned for its natural beauty, outdoor recreation, and culture. I encourage you to explore Madison while considering a rigorous and rewarding educational experience at UW-Madison's Division of Otolaryngology.

Sincerely,

Timothy M. McCulloch, MD
