Services

Protocol Design and Planning

For the planning and design phases of studies, a biostatistician will assist in developing an appropriate statistical experimental design and selecting response variables. This typically includes performing statistical power calculations (expected by most funding and approval agencies) and constructing randomization tables for treatment assignment.

Data Collection

Biostatisticians assist in designing databases and coding variables to insure data integrity and interpretability.

Data Analysis and Interpretation

Biostatisticians work with researchers to select appropriate analytical procedures for evaluating study results. Many options are available for data analysis and interpretation, from simple t-tests and summary statistics, to sophisticated multivariate analyses of complex clinical data sets and specialized statistical procedures for survival analysis and molecular genetics.

Publication and Presentation of Data

In addition to typical statistical summaries, biostatisticians can also produce statistical graphics which can be inserted directly into documents or posters.

File Manipulation and Maintenance

Using primarily SAS™ statistical software, large data files can be maintained, manipulated and merged.

Grant and Manuscript Review

In addition to assisting with the preparation of grants and manuscripts, biostatisticians also help with reviewing grants and manuscripts. Upon request, they also can give presentations on statistical issues of interest to groups in the department.
