Educational Media Center

The Educational Media Center furnishes computers and educational materials for medical students and surgical residents.

Computers in this room have access to the hospital and University network, Medline, and the Internet.

Fourth Friday Research Luncheon

The Fourth Friday Research Luncheon is held monthly and provides a forum for researchers to share their work with other research staff in the department. Speakers from within the department and elsewhere on the UW campus also give presentations on research-related issues and resources.

The Department of Surgery Annual Research Summit

The Department of Surgery is holding it's first annual, department-wide, Research Summit for all members of department research teams and faculty. The event will feature keynote presentations, faculty from across the department speaking about their research, an oral poster session with resident, scientist and researcher presenters, and an Annual Accomplishments in the Department of Surgery update. This year's theme is Regenerative Medicine. The event will take place on Friday, May 22, 2009 at Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center and will begin at 7:30 a.m. Please see the event Web site for further detail: www.surgery.wisc.edu/ResearchSummit

Research in Progress Seminars

Come learn about and discuss the newest research your colleagues are doing.

The Department of Surgery is pleased to continue a new seminar series entitled “Research in Progress”. The series focuses on current basic and translational research occurring within the Department. The seminar is designed to provide a forum for junior faculty, scientists, researchers and residents to present their work in an informal, collaborative atmosphere. We will have two presentations per meeting each consisting of 20-25 minutes of presentation followed by a question and answer period. Presentations will focus on current, recently generated and in progress data.

When: 11:45-1:30 pm (1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month)
Speakers will start at noon.

Who: Anyone within the Department currently involved and/or interested in basic and translational research is strongly encouraged to attend.

Surgical Skills Training

Courses held in the Experimental Surgery Unit give surgery residents an opportunity to practice basic surgical skills, such as laparoscopy, suturing, and intubation. Microsurgery training for residents and researchers is offered in an adjacent lab. Twice a year, the department also sponsors Advanced Trauma and Life Support courses for all surgery residents.
