Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgery

Approximately one million adults have some type of congenital heart disorder. Congenital means existing at birth, rather than acquired later in life. In fact, at the present time, there are more adults than children living with congenital heart disorders.

Some adults with congenital heart disorders were first diagnosed and treated as children, but have recurring symptoms that require further care. Others have minor defects that have remained undiagnosed until adulthood. In many cases, surgery can cure the defect, or extend and improve quality of life.

UW Health is proud to announce its new, comprehensive adult congenital cardiac surgery program. Led by a fellowship-trained surgeon, this program provides a wide range of surgical treatments for adults with congenital heart disorders, helping them live full, healthy lives.
