Endocrine Surgery Program Staff

Dr.
Herbert Chen is a graduate of the Duke University School
of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency and
a fellowship in Surgical oncology at Johns Hopkins University
in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Chen is the Chief of Endocrine
Surgery and an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University
of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He is also
the leader of the endocrine oncology disease group at the University
of Wisconsin Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Dr. Rebecca
Sippel specializes in endocrine
surgery, treating diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal
glands. She utilizes several minimally invasive techniques to treat
endocrine disorders (minimally invasive parathyroidectomy, laparoscopic adrenalectomy,
focused exploration for recurrent thyroid cancer). She has a special interest
in treating patients with recurrent thyroid cancer.

Sarah Schaefer, NP, received a bachelors and masters degree from the University of Wisconsin Madison and is board certified as an adult nurse practitioner. Her role within the endocrine surgery team includes direct patient care, coordination of care, and managing the endocrine surgery research studies and clinical trials.

Dr. Sharon Weber specializes in malignancies
of the liver, biliary tract, and pancreas. She also has an interest in GI malignancies,
including gastric neuroendocrine tumors, colorectal cancer, and intra-abdominal
and retroperitoneal sarcoma. In addition to her clinical practice at UW Hospital,
she is chief of surgical services at the William S. Middleton Memorial
Veterans Hospital.

Dr. Charles Heise specializes in colorectal and gastrointestinal surgery. He performs laparoscopic bowel surgery for small intestinal and colonic carcinoid tumors.
