Traumatic injuries are the leading cause of death and disability among
people between the ages of one and 44. Injury is the fourth leading
cause of death overall and is recognized as a major public health problem
across the nation. As a result, every patient can receive optimal care from initial recognition of the injury through return to the community. The Dane County area is fortunate to have access to many hospitals, with UW as the Level One Trauma center, helicopter trasport access and many EMS services with advanced skills. The RTAC will only strengthen the relationships between each of these services as well as expedite recognition and care of the severely injured trauma patient.
