The International Potato Center (CIP), with funding from Irish Aid, is implementing the project “Scaling out sweet potato and potato-led interventions to improve nutrition and food security in Tigray and the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Region of Ethiopia."
Since 2012, the UW has partnered with (CIP) to support its effort toward improving nutrition and food security in vulnerable households with young children through increased production and consumption of potato and orange-fleshed sweet potato (OFSP) as part of diversified diets. The UW is providing support to CIP in the areas of monitoring, evaluation, nutrition education, and health. CIP works with universities, NGOs, and Bureaus of Agriculture and Health in each region to support their goals of expanding smallholder farmer production of nutritious potatoes and OFSP, increasing consumption of OFSP as part of more nutritious diets, improving value chains for OFSP products, and strengthening institutional and policy support for nutrition-focused agriculture.
