Nearly 100 Surgeons, Residents and Advanced Practice Providers attended the 3rd Annual Current Topics in General Surgery CME course at the Monona Terrace on April 13-14. Co-Directed by Drs. Herb Chen, Greg Kennedy, Jon Matsumura, Lee Wilke, and Emily Winslow, the program featured four guest speakers and 32 Department faculty members examining the latest developments and current techniques in general surgery. Panel discussions and case reviews created robust discussions with attendees and two live operations broadcast from UWHC operating rooms (thanks to surgeons Jake Greenberg and Mike Garren who performed a sleeve gastrectomy and Greg Kennedy, Chuck Heise and Bruce Harms who performed a lap colon) generated much interest from the audience. The Department’s effort to support surgeons in Wisconsin and beyond has met with the tremendous success based on the growth in attendance at this course. Thanks to Christine Schmieden for her outstanding work supporting this event.
