On Friday, September 1, the Department will roll out Faculty 101, an education program designed for new and current faculty to learn about the Department of Surgery. New faculty will attend as part of their orientation, but all faculty are welcome. Presentations will be given on September 1, 7 and 8. Kudos to Deb Gugel for organizing the schedule (attached), and for all staff who will be speaking. We hope this becomes a regular part of orienting all members of the Department of Surgery.

The American Family Children’s Hospital celebrates its 10th anniversary this week. Pediatric heart surgery is one of the specialties at AFCH that was featured in this story in the State Journal. We are proud of our team members, led by Petros Anagnostopoulos, MD, MBA, who provide high quality care for these patients.
Otolaryngology admin assistant Cara D’Amico was recognized in this heartfelt comment from a patient’s family: “I am writing to send a HUGE ‘THANK YOU’ to Cara D’Amico, a Prior Authorization Specialist who has helped me navigate the complicated world of health insurance in order to get coverage for my 5 year old son’s speech therapy. She has been kind, supportive, resourceful, positive, attentive, and a problem solver with a wonderful attitude! She has listened with a concerned ear, and offered specific solutions including three way calls, reference numbers that help communicate with the insurance company, and really has been an ABSOLUTE JOY to work with during a difficult time! THANK YOU CARA!!!” We are proud of your mastery of prior authorization and your compassion for patients, Cara!
