Dr. Jon Odorico received the University of Wisconsin Vilas Associates Award for his research titled “Determining the role of pancreatic transcription factor 1a (Ptf1a) in pancreas specification and endocrine cell differentiation using an ESC in vitro model system.” This competitive campus award is $12,500/yr for 2 years.
Dr. Gilherme Campos’ study on gastric bypass versus lap-banding surgery for weight loss and diabetes control is already drawing national media attention ahead of its publication today in the Archives of Surgery. He has had interviews with CNN, HealthDay and Web MD.
Dr. Ancil Philip, 4th year general surgery resident, will be the recipient of the Surgery Resident Teaching Award by the UWSMPH Class of 2011. This year’s awards will be presented at 10:00am on Match Day, March 17th, in 1306 HSLC. The award recognizes those individuals who have made significant contributions to medical student education.
Dr. Lucian Lozonschi has been invited to be a member of the organizing committee and a plenary speaker for the International Conference on Clinical Research: Dermatology, Ophthalmology and Cardiology, on 5-6 July 2011 San Francisco. The conference is sponsored by OMICS Publishing Group which publishes the Journal of Transplantation Technologies and Research of which Dr. Lozonschi is an editorial board member.
