The Division of Transplantation learned its application for a new NIH T32 will be funded July 1, 2016, through June 30, 2021. The University of Wisconsin Transplant Research Training Program will be led by Dixon Kaufman, MD, PhD, program director, and Joshua Mezrich, MD, associate program director. The training grant will support two trainees in year 1 and four trainees in years 2-5. This is the Department’s 4th T32 grant, and 6th training grant (with our T35 and Doris Duke grant)—unofficially holding the most training grants of any Surgery department in the country.

Clinical

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) recently reverified University Hospital as a Level I Trauma Center and American Family Children’s Hospital as a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. Verification is voluntary and relevant for 3 years. Both entities provide the highest quality of trauma care for all injured patients throughout Dane County and the greater region. Kudos to Suresh Agarwal, MD, director of trauma, and his team on their site visit and reverification, and also to Charles Leys, MD, medical director of the pediatric trauma program, and his team on their site visit and reverification.
