At the Top

Last week, 170 faculty, trainees, and staff attended our 8th annual Layton F. Rikkers Education Retreat. At the retreat, researchers shared 20 posters on clinical and educational studies happening in our department. Dr. David Farley (Mayo Clinic) presented the keynote address on how surgical educators can identify and adjust for assumptions they make during training, a topic that prompted a lively discussion.
Departmental awards for excellence in education were also presented at the retreat. This year’s award winners were:
The Layton F. Rikkers Faculty Award for Medical Student Education: Jacob Greenberg, MD, EdM
Outstanding Resident Educator Awards:
• General Surgery: Lane Frasier, MD, and Mike Nabozny, MD
• Otolaryngology: Adam Coughlin, MD
• Orthopedics: Reuben Lufrano, MD
• Plastic Surgery: Harry Nayar, MD, and Lisa Block, MD
• Urology: Matthew Grimes, MD
