Dr. Mike Bentz was named President of the American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons (ACAPS) at their spring retreat in Austin, Texas on Saturday, March 25, 2017. Its goal is to provide leadership and support for educational programs for plastic surgery residents. The curriculum for resident educational programs in the US has been derived from the efforts of members of this association. Dr. Bentz has been a leader in these efforts, and a strong supporter of their global health initiatives. Congratulations!
Dr. Luke Funk was a key figure in the VA’s State of the Art Conference in 2017, at which weight management options for veterans were reviewed. This biennial conference brings together an invited multidisciplinary group of VA and non-VA experts to promote improved quality of care for veterans. Dr. Funk participated in the conference’s Bariatric Workshop, and his paper “A Health Services Research Agenda for Bariatric Surgery Within the Veterans Health Administration” was published recently in the Journal of General Internal Medicine. Thank you, Dr. Funk, for pursuing this important research and treating these often underserved patients.
