Drew Roenneburg has announced his resignation as Senior Research Specialist, effective May 19, 2017. Drew has been with the Department of Surgery since 2004. He has assisted virtually every basic science lab in histology as the de facto director, and is the technician and manager of the department’s histology core. He has worked tirelessly to help labs develop new staining techniques and perfect their immunohistochemistry staining, while also performing routine embedding, sectioning, and staining of virtually all forms of tissue. He is a co-author on more than 30 publications. His work is so good that several PIs continued to send samples to Drew after they left the department.
We are sad to lose Drew’s positive attitude, his amazing stories of international travel, and his persistence in helping us validate our scientific discoveries. Drew has chosen to pursue an entirely different line of work and has been accepted into the very competitive UW Physician Assistant program. The program will be getting a very talented, caring individual.
A reception will be held in his honor on Thursday, May 18, from 3:30 to 5:00 pm in WIMR 5001A. Please stop by to thank Drew for his contributions to the Department of Surgery and wish him the very best in his future endeavors.
A patient’s family wrote to the Carbone Cancer Center to express their gratitude for the treatment they received: “Our daughter called the clinic from our car and was connected to Mary Beth Henry in the oncology department, who was leaving the clinic to go home. Instead she stayed and talked for over 45 minutes to clear a path to see the appropriate people. Over the years she has been our guide and spokesperson through many confusing and difficult times to connect us with doctors, expedite medical records and paper work, and make sure all of our needs were attended to, and has told us to call her day or night if we need her. Over these last years she has become a close family friend whom we have often called after hours and on weekends. She is truly an “angel of mercy” who provides such comfort to our entire family in the way she makes us feel cared for and important.”
A patient wrote to thank Cara D’Amico, Medical Program Assistant in the Division of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery: “Thank you for all of your work to help me realize my day at UW Health. Your follow-through was the driving force to end the frustrating journey of the past 3 ½ years and to start my new path toward healing. […] Your gesture to see me after my appointment with the cup of tea truly made my day!”
Thanks to everyone in the department who goes above and beyond to serve our patients and their families!
Sharon Weber, MD (General)
“My experiences at UW Health have been fantastic. Everyone, from the information desk personnel, check in people, lab personnel, nurses, technicians, and doctors were very sensitive to my needs and very proactive in getting things scheduled and taken care of. Everyone is professional, yet caring. I would recommend this facility, and Dr. Weber is an amazing doctor with exceptional credentials.”
Delora Mount, MD (Plastics)
“Dr. Mount is absolutely fabulous. We feel so blessed to have been under her care. We are very thankful every time we see her.”
Charles Acher, MD (Vascular)
“We were very impressed with Dr. Acher. We made the right decision having him for our surgeon. Thank you.”
