The Chief of Transplantation Search Committee recently met and has identified seven candidates who have accepted our invitation to interview. Suggestions regarding the search committee process or feedback on the candidates should be directed to the search committee chair, Dr. Sharon Weber.
The SMPH CT Track Appointments and Promotions Committee unanimously endorsed the following faculty promotions in the Department of Surgery: Catherine Beckman, MD to Clinical Professor and Michael Garren, MD to Clinical Professor. The promotions will become effective July 1, 2010.
We were notified that four grants were funded in the recent Medical School Research Committee’s grant competition. Congratulations to these four research scientists.
Transplant surgeon David Foley, MD was notified that his grant, “Identifying the Role of the Nrf2-Antioxidant Element Pathway in Hepatic Ischemia Reperfusion Injury” was funded for $15,000.
Victoria Browning, PhD, a Scientist in Jon Odorico’s lab, received $10,000 of support for her work titled “Identification of Small Molecules that Activate Ptf1a-P48.”
Herb Chen, MD, was awarded $10,000 for his work titled “Role of Notch 1 Signaling in Wound Healing.”
Muthusamy Kunnimalaiyaan, PhD, a scientist in Herb Chen’s lab, was awarded $6,000 for his work studying the role of notch isoform in small cell lung cancer.
Barb Lewis has been selected by the Medical School Class of 2010 as the recipient of the Regular Fellow Award which is given to one staff person who has been particularly helpful to the class. She will receive this honor during the match day ceremony on March 18 starting at 10 am in room 1306 of the Health Sciences Learning Center.
Drs. Mike Garren, Jon Gould, Jon Matsumura and Gretchen Schwarze were accepted into the 2010-2012 UW Medical Foundation Physician Leadership Development Program (PLDP). This program is directed by Dr. Roger Formisano, VP of Leadership and Strategic Development at UWMF and is guided by the Kouzes and Posner book, “The Leadership Challenge.”
