Dr. Ben Marcus, a facial plastic surgeon in the Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, was recently featured on NBC 15 news discussing a pediatric patient who was born with microtia, a congenital deformity. In Kierney Herndon’s case, her right outer ear did not fully develop. A small flap of skin existed where Kierney’s right ear should have formed. As a result Kierney, a musically inclined teenager, could only hear out of her left ear. Dr. Marcus performed four operations over the course of one year to form Kierney’s new ear.
