Thanks to a multi-million dollar award from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, Dr. Caprice Greenberg now has the time and resources necessary to create a patient-centered approach to monitoring cancer recurrence or side effects of treatment among breast-cancer survivors.

Caprice C. Greenberg, MD, MPH , director of the Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program and associate professor in the Department of Surgery, said follow-up surveillance and care for breast-cancer survivors currently is a one-size-fits-all approach.

“We want to develop a system to follow breast-cancer survivors that will consider individual risk factors for a tailored approach for each patient,” Dr. Greenberg said.

Dr. Greenberg and the University of Wisconsin are collaborating on the study with the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology and the Commission on Cancer.
