K. Craig Kent, MD was elected as a new Director of the American Board of Surgery for a term beginning July 1, 2013 and ending June 30, 2019. The American Board of Surgery is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1937 to certify individuals who have met a defined standard of education, training and knowledge in the field of surgery. The ABS offers board certification in general surgery, vascular surgery, pediatric surgery, surgical critical care, surgery of the hand, hospice and palliative medicine, and complex general surgical oncology. The ABS is composed of a board of directors representing the leading surgical organizations in the U.S. Dr. Kent was nominated and selected as the representative from the American Surgical Association.
