Kristi Herritz, an outreach program manager with the Department of Surgery since 2006, was honored recently with a UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) Faculty and Staff Equity and Diversity Award. The awards are meant to recognize SMPH employees who promote equity and diversity in pursuit of the school’s missions to train clinicians and scholars to understand the needs of diverse individuals and groups; to study ethnic and racial disparities in health care; and to maintain an open, inclusive, and respectful environment.

The members of the SMPH awards committee recognized Herritz’s work to increase minority recruitment of trainees in three NIH-funded training grants for which she serves as point person. In addition, Herritz helped establish and design a program to introduce minority and low-income high school students to careers in medical research, supported by grant funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
