Doctors are becoming increasingly concerned of strains of the human papillomavirus that can cause cancer.

Of the 200 strains of HPV, only nine are linked to cancer. However, doctors have seen a yearly increase of oral cancer from these high risk HPV strains.

HPV symptoms can often go unnoticed, so it is important to have an oral cancer screening performed by a medical or dental professional. Doctors also recommend that pre-adolescents be vaccinated to protect against the disease.
