You may recognize the speech trend vocal fry as a rough vocal quality often produced at the end of sentences. This fluttering of vocal folds is more common with women and can be witnessed in just about any celebrity reality show or interview with young pop stars. Carol Tolejano, senior clinical speech pathologist in the Division of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, recently discussed this trend during a Live at Five newscast. “Speech pathologists concerned about speech trend ‘vocal fry’” aired on WISC-TV Channel 3 on February 16, 2015.
