In its 2015 rankings of National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding to U.S. medical schools, Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research placed the University of Wisconsin Department of Surgery sixth in the nation. This is the fourth year in a row the UW Department of Surgery ranked in the top 10. The UW Department of Surgery increased its 2015 NIH funding by more than $660,000 over 2014, and nearly doubled its NIH funding since 2010.
A total of 72 departments of surgery were included in the rankings, garnering $289,465,322 in NIH research dollars. The top 10 departments accounted for 46% of that funding.
