Intended Audience

This program is intended for physicians (pediatricians, plastic surgeons, neurosurgeons, ENT specialists, radiologists, family medicine, geneticists, internal medicine), nurses, medical students, genetic counseling students and nursing students.

Statement of Need

Many health care workers understand little about cranial shape disorders, their treatment and clinical significance for other problems. Referrals are delayed, misinformation is given to patients and suboptimal treatment or delays frequently occur. We are seeking, through a multidisciplinary approach, to provide education to the myriad of caregivers seeing these deformities.

Learning Objectives

The goal of this program is to improve the early diagnosis and referral to services for children with craniofacial conditions. Following this training the participant will be able to differentiate surgical and non-surgical cranial shape diagnoses, propose appropriate and cost-efficient treatment plans, develop techniques of assessments and plans for appropriate referrals, identify concomitant risks for other deformities and provide cost-efficient screening and to feel knowledgeable enough about the condition to provide family counseling and accurate information.

The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
