Brachial Plexus Clinic
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Brachial Plexus Clinic is a
multidisciplinary clinic. Our special team provides comprehensive
medical and surgical evaluation and treatment of infants, children
and adults with brachial plexus and other peripheral nerve injuries.
Multidisciplinary team members include specialists from neurosurgery,
plastic surgery, neurology, rehabilitation, nursing and occupational
therapy. These specialists are available during your clinic visit
to maximize the efficiency of your evaluation and to facilitate
collaboration of the different specialists. The Brachial Plexus
Clinic is held monthly. The adult clinic is on the first Wednesday
of even months, the pediatric/adult clinic is on the first Thursday
of odd months.

Staff Physicians
- Miroslav Backonja, MD, Associate Professor and Director of
Research and Education at the UW Pain Research and Treatment Center,
Department of Neurology. Dr. Backonja specializes in the management
of neuropathic pain.
- Michael L. Bentz, MD, Professor and Chairman of Plastic & Reconstructive
Surgery. Dr. Bentz specializes in microsurgery and surgery of the hand.
- Dominic Fee, MD, Attending Physician, Neuromuscular Specialist.
Dr. Fee is a neurologist with expertise in evaluating peripheral nerve
and muscle conditions including performance of nerve conduction studies
and electromyography.
- Lindell Gentry, MD, Professor of Radiology, Neurology, and
Neurosurgery, Interprets radiographic images.
- Bermans J. Iskandar,
MD, Assistant Professor and Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery.
Dr. Iskandar specializes in brachial plexus injuries in children and
adults.
- Neil Salyapongse,
MD,
Assistant Professor of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.
- Debroah Rusy, MD, Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, Dr.
Rusy is an anesthesiologist, she provides electrophysiological monitoring
during surgery.
- Gregory Trost, MD, Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and
Director of the Spinal Surgery Program. Dr. Trost specializes in adult
brachial plexus, peripheral nerve injuries, and disorders of the spine.
- Andrew Waclawik, MD, Assistant Professor of Neurology, Dr.
Waclawik is a neurologist with expertise in neuromuscular diseases and
evaluation of peripheral neuropathies.
Hand/Upper Extremity Therapy
Staffed by Occupational or Physical therapists trained in the treatment
of brachial plexus injuries. The therapists work closely with the brachial
plexus team to assess therapy needs, provide treatment, and consult with
community based therapists. Treatment approaches include neuromuscular retraining,
muscle performance exercises, range of motion, splinting, biofeedback, self-care
adaptations, and patient/family education. For pediatric patients, developmental
based evaluation and treatment will also be performed. Please contact the
