Program & RotationsOverviewWhen you match into our Integrated Residency model here at UW, the major goal of our program is to produce a well-rounded, broad-based plastic and reconstructive surgeon with the ability to assume any type of practice - academic, private, or specialized fellowship. Two residents are appointed each year. Our Integrated Residency Program proposal was approved by the RRC in May 2000. Integrated ResidencySenior Resident (PGY - 4)
Two of these will be completed at UW Hospital, with a broad program of reconstructive and subspecialty surgery. You will operate on a wide variety of complex cases (cancer, trauma, etc.) that overlap with other specialties such as orthopedics, urology, and gynecology. Unique to this program is the training you will receive in dental techniques from John F. Doyle, D.D.S. You'll also spend three months at St. Mary's Hospital Medical Center, about three miles from UW Hospital. This rotation provides you with broad-based private-practice experience, including cosmetic surgery. You will spend a dedicated rotation performing hand surgery at UW Hospital and Meriter Hospital, getting experience from plastic and orthopedic surgeons in our combined service. Chief Resident (PGY - 5)
During the fourth rotation, you will spend 12 weeks on a combined Aesthetic surgery/VAMC rotation, benefiting from the experience of full-time and clinical faculty. As part of your final year, you will have the opportunity to spend time in a developing nation, concentrating on cleft lip and palate surgery. Integrated Residency Block Diagram
