Sara E. (Murray) Holden, MD
General Surgery Resident
Dr. Sara E. (Murray) Holden grew up in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and graduated summa cum laude from Truman State University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science/Pre-medicine. She played four years of collegiate soccer and was a first-team all-American and scholar all-American. She then served in the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps where she was stationed primarily in the Gulf Coast Region in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. After her year of service, Sara attended the University of Minnesota Medical School, graduating in 2010 with overall academic honors and as a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
Sara joined the University of Wisconsin general surgery residency program in 2010. She subsequently was a post-doctorate research fellow in Dr. Herbert Chen’s lab from 2011 to 2013, participating in the NIH T32 Surgical Oncology Research Training Program. Her research interests included clinical outcomes after parathyroid and thyroid surgery, as well as clinical characteristics and post-resection surveillance of gastrointestinal carcinoid tumors.
Outside of work, Sara enjoys traveling, camping, playing soccer, doing puzzles, watching HGTV, and most of all spending time with her wonderful husband and son.
