Message from the Chairman
Dear Applicant: Congratulations on selecting a career in urology! I know that it has been immensely satisfying for me to practice urology at the University of Wisconsin. I cannot imagine a University program with a better blend of traditional and cutting-edge urology. Our program has nationally recognized experts in urologic oncology, endourology, laparoscopic urology and pediatric urology. We currently have four active laboratories, numerous clinical trials and research grants studying urinary tract infections, voiding dysfunction, stone disease, and new treatments for urologic cancers. As a resident in our program, you are invited to participate in our latest clinical and research endeavors as part of your training. We strongly advocate resident participation in national research meetings and courses to broaden your learning experience. Our residency program offers a strong clinical experience with exposure to the latest surgical innovations. The University of Wisconsin Hospital is consistently rated as one of America's best hospitals in urology by U.S. News and World Report. While at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, you will work one-on-one with our full-time faculty and participate in a wide variety of surgical procedures, ranging from basic urology to some of the newest approaches to urologic disease. You will complete your urologic training by rotating at Meriter Hospital, St. Marys Hospital and the William S. Middleton VA Hospital. In addition, the city of Madison is a wonderful place to live and work during your residency training. Housing is affordable and there is plenty to do in our capital city. I am glad you chose urology, and I encourage you to join us at the University of Wisconsin! Sincerely,
Stephen Y. Nakada, MD
