At the recent American Thyroid Association Annual Meeting, held in Coronado, California, October 28-November 2, University of Wisconsin professor of surgery and chairman of the Division of General Surgery Herbert Chen, MD, presented the Surgical Review Lecture “Improving Quality in Thyroid Surgery.” In his presentation, Dr. Chen offered three suggestions for optimizing outcomes for thyroid surgery:
- Patients should seek out experienced, high-volume thyroid surgeons
- Hospitals should recruit and retain talented surgeons
- Experienced thyroid surgeons need to share their knowledge with their peers
Endocrine Today magazine reported live from the meeting and released a series of videos that capture speakers from the event summarizing their presentations. You can watch a video of Dr. Chen summarizing the key points from his talk.
