Luis Fernandez, MD, was named surgical director of the UW Liver Transplant Program, effective March 1, 2016.

Dr. Fernandez completed his transplant surgery fellowship at UW and has risen through the academic ranks to his current position as a tenured associate professor. He has served in several leadership positions inside the institution and externally, recently concluding his position as Region 7 representative on the UNOS Liver Transplant Committee. He is also a distinguished researcher currently holding several clinical and basic research grants, including studies supported by the NIH.

The UW Liver Transplant Program was established in 1984 and is one of the largest and most successful programs in the country.
