Archive: General Surgery Residency Receives Kamangar Ethics Award

The General Surgery Residency Program was one of 15 surgical residency programs to receive a 2009 Kamangar Ethics award.

The award is designed to help residency programs create ethics training initiatives that give residents experience in addressing and gaining mastery in medical ethical issues.

Dr. Gretchen Schwarze submitted the grant application and has already started introducing curriculum for surgery residents with ethics seminars, an ethics blog for residents, and a monthly ethics rounds.

The subject for next ethics round is “conscientious objection / conscience clauses.” Norm Fost will be joining us to help with the discussion.
