Anne-Lise D’Angelo, MD, MS Ed. Best Oral Presentation Award at the 2017 Department of Surgery Research Summit Anne-Lise D’Angelo, MD, MS Ed., received the Best Oral Presentation Award for her presentation “Rescuing the Clinical Breast Examination: Advances in Classifying Technique and Assessing Physician Competency.” The presentation was given at the 8th Annual Research Summit put on by the Department of Surgery, January 18, 2017.
Eran C. Gwillim, MD ACS AEI Consortium Meeting Poster of Merit award Eran C. Gwillim, MD, received a Poster of Merit award for “Error Tolerance: A New Psychomotor Performance Metric in Laparoscopic Surgery” at the 8th Annual ACS AEI Consortium Meeting, March 13-14, 2015, in Chicago. It was one of three posters selected, and he gave an oral presentation during the Poster of Merit session with distinguished research scientists.Gwillim_Eran_poster_March2015_250
Carla Pugh, MD, PhD, FACS UW-Madison Outstanding Women of Color Award Dr. Pugh was recognized for her contributions to research in both campus and community activities. She was nominated for her “contributions to further social justice and improve the diversity of science and medicine through her advocacy, outreach and dedicated mentorship. Carla has inspired, motivated and empowered a generation of youth from underrepresented backgrounds, including women and young people of color, to pursue careers in science and medicine. She is a coveted speaker and encouraging spokeswoman on issues of women and people of color, particularly in the surgical profession.” August 2014
Anne-Lise Maag, MD Resident Research Day Clinical Presentation Award Dr. Maag was asked to present her abstract “The Use of Error Analysis to Assess Resident Performance” at the UW Resident Research Day and was awarded the Clinical Presentation Award. 2014

Winning Poster Presentation At the Medicine Meets Virtual Reality (MMVR) conference in February 2014, the Pugh lab team received a certificate for its winning poster presentation “Modification of the Pelvic Examination Simulator for the Developing World.” Ten winning posters were selected by a jury of committee members from 70 posters displayed. 2014
Shannon DiMarco, BA Executive Education Grant Selected by the Professional Development and Recognition Committee of the Academic Staff Assembly in conjunction with the Wisconsin School of Business, Shannon was awarded a grant to take a continuing education course in July 2014. Shannon was selected as one of five recipients of this award and will be continuing her education in accounting and finance. 2014
Carla Pugh, MD, PhD, FACS Brava Magazine’s “Women to Watch” Dr. Pugh was featured as one of five University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health faculty members among Madison’s “Women to Watch” in the January, 2014 issue of Brava magazine. The magazine highlights “inspiring, innovative and empowering women who enrich Madison.” 2014
