Archive: UW Surgery Alumni and Transplant Surgeon, Dr. Silke Niederhaus, Featured on CNN Health

Dr. Silke Niederhaus, a UW Surgery Alumni, was diagnosed with kidney failure when she was 8 years old. When she was 11, her kidneys shut down completely and she needed a transplant. That same year, good news came and Silke received a donor kidney just before Christmas.

Dr. Niederhaus credits two things which allowed her to excel through her illness – her faith in God, and her unshakable determination to become a transplant surgeon – which she did 24 years later.
