Archive: UWHC and American Family Children’s Hospital Reverified as a Level 1 Trauma Center

UW Hospital and Clinics (UWHC) and American Family Children’s Hospital (AFCH) has been reverified as a Level 1 Trauma Center for pediatric and adult patients by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). UWHC and AFCH are one of 12 centers nationwide to hold verification for both pediatric and adult patients as well as to hold ACS verification as a Burn Center.

This distinction demonstrates the depth of our commitment to our community-at UWHC there is immediate availability of trauma surgeons, anesthesiologists, specialists including neurology and orthopedics, nurses, resuscitation equipment and other facilities 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We have a dedicated trauma operating suite along with specialized diagnostic and treatment equipment and laboratory support.

While this reverification is a wonderful recognition of the quality of our critical care services and demonstrates our compliance with national Level 1 Trauma guidelines, it is also a mark of the quality of our entire organization. As trauma patients recover, their care transitions to many inpatient and outpatient areas, and it is our combined commitment to healing that means so much to these patients and their loved ones.

Along with excellence in patient care, our comprehensive critical care program also focuses on advanced training for current and future critical care and trauma providers and offers extensive outreach to the communities in our area.
