At the Top

The UWSMPH class of 2015 chose Jacob Greenberg, MD, EdM, as winner of the Outstanding Clinical Teaching Award, which honors one exemplary faculty member each year who has had a great impact on the class over the course of four years. This accolade shows Dr. Greenberg’s dedication to training and mentoring tomorrow’s physicians. Thanks, Dr. Greenberg, for being an outstanding role model for our students!


On March 24, 2015, the SMPH CHS Track Appointments and Promotions Committee overwhelmingly endorsed the department’s recommendation that Emily Winslow, MD, be promoted to Associate Professor (CHS). The promotion will be effective July 1, 2015. Congratulations, Dr. Winslow, on your well-deserved promotion!

Honors & Awards

UW Health notified the Department that it will honor James Maloney, MD, and Jacob Greenberg, MD, EdM, with Physician Excellence Awards, given each year to a handful of UW Health providers who demonstrate exceptional performance in clinical practice, education and outreach care. Congratulations to you both!


The UW School of Medicine and Public Health held the 7th Annual Bioethics Symposium on March 19, 2015, with a number of speakers and topic Q&A sessions exploring this year’s theme “Challenging the Norm: Fostering Ethics.” The event was held in honor of Norman Fost, MD, MPH, professor emeritus of bioethics and pediatrics at UWSMPH and longtime commentator on ethical and legal health care issue. Visiting speakers from across the country discussed a variety of topics including pediatric transplants, hospital ethics committees, whole genome sequencing and IRBs. Thank you to Gretchen Schwarze, MD, for her outstanding work on the symposium planning committee and helping to bring together a fantastic group of speakers and an exceptionally educational event.
