The UW Department of Surgery is delighted to announce the addition of Kristin Long, MD, as assistant professor in the Division of Endocrine Surgery. Dr. Long earned her MD from Texas Tech University and completed her general surgery residency training at the University of Kentucky. This past summer she completed an Endocrine Surgery Fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Long joins us with an extensive and impressive research background, with nearly 20 journal publications and two dozen podium and poster abstract presentations. Her hobbies include travel, animal rescue, reading, cooking and running. Dr. Long’s official start date is October 1. Welcome aboard, Dr. Long!

Congratulations to Brianna Schumacher, CPNP-PC, and the Pediatric Otolaryngology team for securing $25,900 in funding through the UW Health Innovation Grant Program in support of their proposal “Text to Teach — Using Text Messaging to Provide Supplemental Perioperative Patient and Family Education in Pediatric Otolaryngology.”

Effective October 4, Luis Fernandez, MD, will provide transplant surgery services at ProHealth Medical Group in Waukesha. Joshua Mezrich, MD, David Foley, MD, Anthony D’Alessandro, MD, and Martin Dib, MD, will provide backup transplant surgery services there. Thanks to all of our busy surgeons for offering specialty services at regional locations. This is the embodiment of the Wisconsin Idea and continues to forward great health care in the state.
