Archive: Weight-loss surgery helps a young man recover from a serious heart disorder

In his mid-20s, Keith McCarter was diagnosed with a heart disorder and put on a transplant waiting list. But his heart medication caused him to gain so much weight he was no longer eligible for a transplant. Referred to the UW Health Medical and Surgical Weight Management Program, bariatric surgery helped Keith lose weight and restored his health so he no longer needed a new heart. UW Health produced a video about Keith’s story and recovery.
