Clinical Specialties

Dr. Smith is certified by the Vascular Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery.  She specializes in the treatment of complex venous disorders, including Nutcracker Syndrome, Pelvic Congestion Syndrome, and May-Thurner Syndrome.

Research Interests

Dr. Smith is a nationally recognized expert in surgical education.  Her research seeks to examine the association between educational variables, including training programs, policies, and individual measures of competence, with patient care outcomes in unsupervised practice.  Through this work, which has previously been funded by the National Board of Medical Examiners Stemmler Grant, she seeks to inform performance benchmarks for competency-based medical education systems.

Dr. Smith was awarded a $70,000 grant from the American Board of Medical Specialties to study formats used for oral board exams. Read more here.
