Clinical Specialties

Dr. Ahuja is a gastrointestinal oncology surgeon who has an international reputation for providing complex surgeries for people with gastric, rectal, and pancreatic cancers. She is internationally known for treating rare, difficult soft-tissue sarcomas, which are cancers that affect the connective tissue. Dr. Ahuja was one of the early international leaders to develop a program for treatment of peritoneal metastasis for cancers, a concept called cytoreduction surgery and heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy. This treatment is now standard of care for multiple cancers, including appendix, colorectal, ovarian, and gastric cancers. She serves on the scientific advisory council of the nonprofit No Stomach For Cancer.

Research Interests

Dr. Ahuja is a widely recognized leader in translational epigenetics, conducting clinical trials in colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and other solid tumors. She is known among her peers for developing biomarkers for early detection of colorectal and pancreatic cancers. Dr. Ahuja has also led more than 20 national and international clinical trials on testing new therapies in gastrointestinal and breast cancers based on concepts identified in her laboratory.
