Jacqueline Murtha, MD
General Surgery Resident
Jackie Murtha is from Atlanta, Georgia. She attended University of Georgia for her undergraduate degree in biological sciences with high honors and her Masters in Public Health. She attended medical school at University of Rochester, NY. Her surgical interests include emergency general surgery and colorectal surgery, and in her free time she enjoys swimming, biking, camping, hiking/backpacking, and cooking.
Jackie finished two clinical years in general surgery and now holds a position as a WiSOR fellow in the lab of Dr. Luke Funk. Current projects focus on barriers to bariatric surgery, identifying individuals at high risk for weight gain, and identifying thresholds for the development of obesity-related comorbidities. Jackie will gain experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods through these projects with Dr. Funk and collaborators in WiSOR. These experiences will be supported by NIH T32 grant in Nutritional Sciences.
