James Barrett, MD

General Surgery Resident

Dr. James Barrett is a general surgery resident. Originally from Utah, James spent over three years living abroad in various locations including Israel, Germany, and South Korea. Dr. Barrett graduated from medical school at the University of Utah, where he founded two companies and became involved in multiple projects aimed at improving the delivery of care through leveraging smart phone technology.

Dr. Barrett is spending two years in WiSOR focused on outcomes and health services research. His research interests include behavioral modification and improving surgical oncology patient outcomes through mobile technology. He is also studying the impact of trainees on surgical outcomes in an effort to optimize the autonomy of residents while preserving patient safety and quality of care. Dr. Barrett is also involved in creating a tool to promote financial wellness in medical trainees. When not at work, James enjoys spending time with his wife, Genny, and their four children. He also enjoys basketball, video games, and Korean food.
