Application Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in a University of Wisconsin cardiothoracic surgery residency. The cardiothoracic residency program at UW-Madison is a two-year program involving rotations at University Hospital and the William S. Middelton Memorial Veterans Hospital.

The Thoracic Surgery Directors Association has developed a Universal Thoracic Surgery Residency Application which candidates will be able to use for every program to which they apply. We recommend that you call the NRMP office at (202) 862-6077 for registration information regarding the Match. The universal application is available through the NRMP office and you will receive it when you request your application for the Match.

All application files will be reviewed by our selection committee. We will inform you by email of their decision regarding an interview. Formal interviews at the University of Wisconsin will be conducted during the months of February and March. If you should move, it is important that you send us written notice of your change of address and telephone number.

We hope that this information will answer most of your questions about our program. Should you have further questions, we invite you to contact Terry Legler.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.
