Department of Surgery faculty, residents, fellows & trainees, staff, and students are eligible and encouraged to enter the Surgery Science Image Contest.
Image submission deadline: November 30, 2025
Images
Images can depict an object or phenomenon from a discipline related to research happening in the UW Department of Surgery.
Examples include:
• Microscopy
• Photography
• Medical Imaging
• Science-As-Art
• Schematics
• Illustration
Submission
Submit your image(s) via email to Karen Lynch at lynchk@surgery.wisc.edu
In your emailed submission, please include the following information:
- Credit line: name and lab of the individual(s) responsible for creating the image
- Specific role within the UW Department of Surgery, including division
- Title
- A brief caption (<150 words) that answers the following questions:
- What does the image depict?
- How was the image taken?
- What is an interesting fact about the object or phenomenon?
- How is this object, phenomenon, and/or method of image-making important to your research or discipline?
Please write your caption in lay terms, avoiding scientific jargon. It should be easy for a non-scientist to understand.
Please note:
- No videos
- No previous submissions (images may be submitted only once)
Judging and Awards
The submitted images will be judged on aesthetic and informational qualities by the Research Summit Committee. The top 3 images will be displayed in poster form to be voted on by Research Summit attendees. The winning image will receive a monetary award.
All images submitted will be displayed during the Research Summit.
Voting
Only registered ATTENDEES of the 2026 Research Summit are allowed to vote for the top image. You must be physically present and ONE VOTE PER ATTENDEE.
Agreement
By submitting an image, you agree to have your image electronically displayed on all UW Department of Surgery digital platforms, including but not limited to the intranet, public website, and social media accounts.
