Please review the UW SMPH Visiting Medical Student Clerkship Program page for specific University of Wisconsin policy regarding visiting students.
The UW School of Medicine and Public Health reviews applications for visiting students meeting all of the following criteria:
- The student is a U.S. citizen, Canadian citizen, or permanent resident of the United States
- The student is currently enrolled in an LCME or AOE accredited medical school
- The student is in his/her final year of training at the time they will be rotating in the School of Medicine and Public Health
There are no exceptions to these criteria.
We offer visiting medical student electives in the following divisions:
Medical students who are underrepresented in surgery and interested in pursuing a career in the surgical specialties of General Surgery, Otolaryngology, Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery, or Peripheral Vascular Surgery are encouraged to apply for the Underrepresented in Medicine Visiting Elective Scholarship. Applications received before May 1 are given priority.
Students can expect to submit the following documents to each division prior to being eligible to shadow:
- Current CV
- Personal Statement/Letter of Interest
The Department of Surgery does not accept any international visiting students in their electives, per UWSMPH policy.
