The Department of Surgery is pleased to welcome Dr. Patrick Shahan as Assistant Professor in the Division of Acute Care and Regional General Surgery. Dr. Shahan’s clinical practice will be based primarily at University Hospital, where he will participate in the Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care services.
Dr. Shahan earned a B.S. in Microbiology and Cell Science at the University of Florida before attending the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where he completed an MD, an MS in Epidemiology and a residency in General Surgery. He then completed a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
During his surgical training, Dr. Shahan’s research interests centered on blunt cerebrovascular injury. Going forward, he plans to contribute to improvements in patient care by developing and evaluating mental health interventions for survivors of trauma and critical illness.
