The Department of Surgery is pleased to welcome Dr. Patrick Varley as Assistant Professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Varley will join active programs in peritoneal surface malignancy, hepatopancreatobiliary, and GI oncology. He will practice at both University Hospital and the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital.
Dr. Varley earned a B.S. in Biology from the University of Notre Dame and an MD from New York University School of Medicine. He then completed an M.S. in Clinical Research from the University of Pittsburgh while pursuing a residency in General Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he stayed to complete a fellowship in Complex General Surgical Oncology.
The Department of Surgery is especially enthusiastic about Dr. Varley’s interest in establishing a funded health services research program focused on the improvement of resilience in surgical patients.
