Welcome Jessica Schumacher, PhD, to a new faculty role with the Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program!

The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce that Dr. Jessica Schumacher will now hold the position of Associate Professor in WISOR. Dr. Schumacher, who has been with the School of Medicine and Public Health since 2012 and WISOR in particular since 2014, will continue to serve as a collaborative member of WISOR, working toward becoming a leader in the field of Health Services Research. She will also continue in the role of data and analytics director for the Surgical Collaborative of Wisconsin, as she has since 2018, and will teach and mentor trainees in research and evaluation design, data collection, and analysis.

Dr. Schumacher earned a B.S. in Psychology and an M.S. in Population Health-Epidemiology from UW-Madison, where she stayed to complete a Ph.D. in Population Health with an emphasis in Health Services Research. She has over two decades of experience in health research, having held scientist and faculty positions at public health agencies and academic institutions. Her accomplishments include 78 publications in peer-reviewed journals, 115 presentations at national meetings, and serving as Co-I or PI on 23 funded grants. She has also contributed to research by mentoring MPH and Ph.D. students, supporting work that has resulted in awards, travel grants, publications and presentations for developing scientists.
