Dr. Petros Anagnostopoulos, professor in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, was invited to join a Congenital Heart Program Verification/Certification task force. This task force will establish the process and criteria for the verification of Congenital Heart Programs in the United States.
The Congenital Heart Surgeons’ Society (CHSS) is developing this verification process based on the recent recommendations of the CHSS for congenital heart centers, which have been endorsed by 15 professional societies. The CHSS will be partnering with the American College of Surgeons to develop this process.
The goal of this verification process is to enhance the quality of care for patients who receive treatment at congenital heart centers. Receiving verification will be confirmation that congenital heart centers have met the set of recommendations. Patients and families will then be able to expect a certain level of care from these centers.
Dr. Anagnostopoulos was invited to join this task force because of his notable standing in the field. In addition to being a professor in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, he is also the Chief of the Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery Section and is the Surgeon Co-Director of the Forward Pediatric Alliance, which is a joint venture for shared pediatric cardiac and adult congenital heart care services between UW Health Kids and Children’s Wisconsin. This appointment is a recognition of the national reputation and high-quality of the Congenital Heart Program at UW Health Kids and the American Family Children’s Hospital.
