On Sept. 17, 2025, Dr. Paris Butler, associate professor of surgery and Vice Chair of Education and Inclusive Excellence at Yale School of Medicine, gave a presentation titled, “Reclaiming the Narrative with Data: Mentorship as the Engine of Inclusive Excellence in Academic Surgery” for Department of Surgery Grand Rounds.
His presentation focused on data that describe disparities in outcomes of surgical care along racial and ethnic lines, current demographics of academic surgical leadership, and mechanisms to create and ensure a more diverse and inclusive surgical workforce. Following his presentation, Dr Butler held mentorship sessions with trainees and met with Department of Surgery faculty.
